Sterling Bay purchased 111 North Canal, a 95-year-old loft building in the West Loop, in December 2012. The property had many positive attributes such as large floor plates, proximity to transportation and exceptional fiber connectivity, but was in need of a renovation and modern amenities.

In early 2013, Gogo, the world's leading wireless in-flight Internet company, started investigating Downtown Chicago for viable spaces to move its headquarters. Gogo was seeking three distinct characteristics in its downtown headquarters: an office space that would enhance its creative corporate culture, a building with a high-profile signage opportunity and a location where their data center, R&D lab and network operations could be consolidated.

111 North Canal provided the perfect solution. Not only did it offer over 230,000 square feet of efficient contiguous space, but with its fully renovated lobby and common areas, new mechanicals and exciting tenant amenities including outdoor roof terraces, the building provided Gogo a truly innovative environment.

Gogo’s commitment to 111 North Canal was Chicago’s largest headquarters relocation of 2013 and brought 460 new jobs to the city when its new offices opened in 2015, with 50 more expected within two years.
